From 1st January 2021, In order to work in the UK, people needs to apply for a work visa - Skilled worker visa to be able to work in the UK includes EU citizens who are not granted EU settlement Scheme or Pre-Settlement Scheme.

What is a Skilled Worker visa? 

Skilled worker visa replaced previous Tier 2 general since 1st December 2020. Under the recently introduced migration plan, an applicant could achieve a certain number of points through having a job offer from a UK employer has a sponsor licence and a certificate of sponsorship. 


Who can apply for a Skilled worker visa? 

  • Have been offered a skilled job in the UK from an employer who is on the list of registered licensed sponsor
  • Have been assigned a Certificate of Sponsorship
  • Have met English language requirement at B1 or above. 


How do I make an application for Skills worker visa.

How to prove knowledge of English? 

  • You can submit a UK degree certificate or above, or pass a SELT English language test certificate from IELTS , Trinity College London and Pearson or
  • a Degree certificate taught in English with a letter from ECCTIS, or
  • You are from an English speaking country, such as Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas , Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis , St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines ,Trinidad and Tobago, USA 


How long can you stay after switching to a skilled worker visa?

As long as you stay on Skills work visa for 5 years and then you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain.


What will happen if skilled worker migrant change their job? 

They have to apply for a new Skilled worker visa  under a new sponsor and cannot start to work until the application is approved. 


Can Skilled Worker visa holders take a second job? 

They can take a second job on this visa if they are working up to 20 hours a week in either: 

the same profession as your main job and at the same level or a profession on the shortage occupation list, or They can also do unpaid voluntary work.
