Global Talent Visa

In order to attract  the most talented people from around the world to come to the UK, UK government announced global talent visa in Feb 2020.


More and more people apply for global talent visa to work in the UK. Any one who is talented and promising individuals in the fields of science, engineering, medicine, humanities, digital technology and arts and culture (including film and television, fashion design and architecture), wishing to work in the UK, can apply for it. They  will be leaders in their field, or have the potential to be leaders, as determined by an endorsing body that is approved by the Home Office. 


The requirements to apply for Global talent visa is to get endorsed:

 

  •  as a leader (exceptional talent) or 
  • an emerging leader (exceptional promise) or 
  • under the UK Research and Innovation endorsed funder option

 

Who are the recognised endorsed bodies?

 

 

People in the field is fashion, architecture or film and television need to apply through Arts Council England and they will pass on the application for review to:

 

  • British Fashion Council, for fashion
  • Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), for architecture
  • Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT), for film and television

 

There are two stages to apply for a global talent visa:

 

  • apply to the Home Office for endorsement as a leader or an emerging leader in your particular field
  • apply for the visa

 

The length of global talent visa:


It will be granted from 1 to 5 years depending on the application. Global talent visa holder will be able to apply for indefinite Leave to remain in three or five years in the UK or extend another 1 to 5 years.


The requirements apply for indefinite Leave to Remain: 


Three years continuous residence requirements under accelerated  route if 

 

  • endorsed under under the “ talent” criteria by any endorsing body, or
  • endorsed under the “ promise” by science endorsing bodies: science, engineering, humanities and medicine. 
  • endorsed under the UKRI “endorsed funder” by fast track

 

Global talent visa holder will have to meet five years residence rule to qualify for Indefinite leave to remain if you are not endorsed under " promise" criteria by Tech national or Arts Council England of one of its sub-endorsers. 

Temporary concession coronavirus (covid-19) related research

The government has announced that Global Talent applicants under this concession will be required to meet the full UKRI endorsed funder requirements except that:



  • the written confirmation from the endorsed funder must confirm the grant of award covers a minimum period of 1 year instead of 2 years
  • the employment contract or hosting agreement of the applicant must have at least 1 year (instead of 2 years) remaining at the time of the application for endorsement.


The concession will end according to the government policy.
